It is a pleasure to serve the students of CHS. As counselor to 10th, 11th,and 12th grade students, I am here to help them set a course for their high school academic career. In addition (and perhaps the most exciting part of my job), I work to help students see beyond high school and chart a course for post graduation plans (four-year college, two-year college, trade school, work force).
I believe that one of the most important things I do for the students of CHS is to help them recognize how self empowered they are. Like ships at sea, they hold the equipment to navigate through the waters. My job is to guide them in their journey. How easy or rough the trip might be is often up to them and the path they choose to take.
I enjoy working with young people. The power they possess amazes me every day. I taught at the elementary level for several years. I marvel at the mental and emotional growth that takes place as youngsters move into this fantastic stage of young adulthood.
With degrees from UCLA, Vanderbilt University (Nashville, TN), and Cal State University, San Bernardino, I have personal experiences with public, private, in-state, and out-of-state universities. As someone who recently made a career change (from teaching to counseling), I can also understand their excitement and fears as they move into the world to find their place. As their counselor, I am not here to solve their problems. However, I am here to assist them as they deal with challenges and help them see life's options.
As a former teacher, I am a firm believer that parent/teacher communication is vital to student success. Thus, please use your young adult's teachers as your first resource (they are usually the ones that can answer questions pertaining to student achievement within the classroom). However, please feel free to contact me with questions or concerns pertaining to your young adult.
